How The GPA Calculator Works

GPA is a weighted average of grade points by course credit.

Convert grades

Letter grades are converted to grade points, such as A = 4.0, B+ = 3.3, and B = 3.0 on the standard scale.

Weight by credits

Each grade point value is multiplied by the course credits to produce quality points.

Divide totals

Total quality points are divided by total graded credits to produce the weighted GPA.

GPA Calculator FAQ

Common questions about GPA scales and weighted credits.

How is GPA calculated?

Each course grade is converted to grade points, multiplied by course credits, then divided by the total credits counted.

What is the difference between 4.0 and 4.3 scales?

On a standard 4.0 scale, A+ and A both count as 4.0. On a 4.3 scale, A+ counts as 4.3 while the rest of the scale stays the same.

Do blank rows affect GPA?

No. Blank rows are ignored. A row only counts when it has both credits and a supported letter grade.
