How The Weighted Grade Calculator Works

Weighted grades combine category scores by their syllabus weights.

Multiply by weight

A category grade of 92% with a 20% weight contributes 18.4 percentage points to the full course grade.

Add contributions

The calculator adds every category contribution to show your current course contribution.

Normalize partial weights

If weights are below 100%, the displayed weighted grade is normalized across the categories entered so far.

Weighted Grade Calculator FAQ

Common questions about assignment categories and syllabus weights.

How is a weighted grade calculated?

Each category grade is multiplied by its syllabus weight. The weighted contributions are added together, then normalized by the total entered weight.

Do weights need to add up to 100%?

They can add up to less than 100% if some parts of the course are not graded yet. The calculator shows both the current weighted average and the remaining weight.

What should I enter for a category grade?

Use the percentage currently shown for that category in your gradebook, such as 88 for 88%.
