Calculation Steps
How to measure a base mix
Use both volume and gram estimates to make small batches easier to mix accurately on a scale.
Weight is often easier than volume
A kitchen or lab scale lets you tare the bottle and add each ingredient until the gram target is reached, reducing the need for syringes or measuring cylinders.
VG and PG weigh different amounts
The calculator uses density assumptions for VG, PG, and PG-based flavor. These estimates can vary slightly by purity, temperature, and supplier.
Check feasibility before mixing
High flavor percentages, high VG targets, or a nicotine base with the wrong VG/PG ratio can make the target impossible without negative PG or VG.
E-Cig Base Mix FAQ
Common questions about VG/PG density, nicotine base, and scale mixing.
Why does the calculator show grams as well as ml?
Many mixers place the bottle on a scale and pour ingredients by weight. Gram targets make that workflow easier while still showing the familiar ml amounts.
What density assumptions are used?
The calculator uses 1.261 g/ml for VG and 1.036 g/ml for PG. Flavor is treated as PG-based by default, which is common but not universal.
What does it mean if the target is not feasible?
It means the selected nicotine base, flavor percentage, and target VG/PG ratio cannot be reached without a negative amount of VG or PG. Adjust the target ratio, flavor amount, or base ratio.
