Calculation Steps
How to use the allocation view
Compare current balances with target weights before deciding whether contributions or rebalancing should be reviewed.
Enter current market values
Use current balances for each asset group. The calculator uses those values to calculate actual allocation percentages across the whole portfolio.
Targets are normalized
If target percentages do not add to 100%, they are normalized for comparison. This keeps the drift calculation usable while still showing the target total.
Use drift as a review signal
Large positive or negative drift highlights which categories are furthest from target. Treat it as planning context, not a trade recommendation.
Investment Portfolio FAQ
Common questions about target allocations, drift, and contribution planning.
Does this calculator tell me what to buy or sell?
No. It estimates allocation drift from the targets you enter. Investment choices, taxes, fees, and risk tolerance need separate review.
What happens if my target percentages do not add to 100%?
The target percentages are normalized so the allocation comparison still works. The result cards also show the original target total so you can fix the inputs if needed.
How should I treat cash, crypto, or other assets?
Use the categories that match your own plan. If a category is not part of your target allocation, leave its target at zero or include it in another category.
